Very often we are not aware of all the stumbling blocks on the road to weight loss and that can make things very difficult. If you know what to lookout for it becomes easier. So, today we are looking at stumbling block #3.

Stumblingblock #1 was unrealistic expectations and stumbling block #2 was skipping meals.

OK, so here we go with stumbling block #3: weekends

I think this is one of the most important ones and it can really trip you if you are not prepared! Wait for it…..WEEKENDS!

Yes, I have said weekends. How many of us do not give in to temptation on a weekend. Everyone is having fun, going out fro drinks or having a barbecue and very soon you feel left out and sorry for yourself. That is a sure way to throw caution to the wind and eat what you feel like.

If you have a serious problem and if you are saying "I cannot lose weight!" look at weekends. Very often that is the stumbling block you're tripping over. Never go into a weekend unprepared. Have a plan that includes a few "legal" treats.

We all know that visiting friends over a weekend can really be a problem. They are bound to prepare something and them you feel bad not to eat. Prevent this from happening by informing them before hand that you are on a diet and that you will be bringing your own food. That is the only sure way to make sure you do not cheat.

Keep in mind, this is not forever. As soon as you have lost all the weight you need to lose you can eat normal again as long as you keep healthy eating principles in mind and exercise proper portion control.

So, if you are saying "I cannot lose weight" maybe you are tripping over stumbling block #, weekends. Have a plan, be prepared and it will not happen.

How To Identify Fad Diet Plans #2 - You Are Not Allowed To Do Any Exercise

Today I would like to move on to the second way to identify fad diet plans. With so many diet out
there, you really need to be able to identify fad diet plans to prevent you from trying them as they can really be very dangerous.

The first way to identify fad diets plans that we looked at was that you are only allowed to eat very few calories every day. This then want our "How To Identify Fad Diet Plans #1"

How To Identify Fad Diet Plans #2 - Your Are Not Allowed To Do Any Exercise:

This is another very important way to identify fad diet plans. You can also see how it cannot possibly be a good thing. One of the corner stones of healthy weight loss is moderate exercise.

The reason why you are not allowed to do any exercise while you are on one of these fad diet plans is because you eat too few calories to be able to do exercises with safety. You are eating hardly enough to
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AS7W2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0000AS7W2&linkCode=as2&tag=funeascra-20&linkId=VM5ROGHYZV5TOLOZ
keep vital body organs going, let alone do any exercise.

Keep in mind that muscles use more energy than fat, even when you are sleeping, you can understand that not being able to exercise is not good for you. If you combine this with the very few calories you are allowed to eat you are heading for disaster!

Two things are going to happen. Because you are eating so little, you body thinks there is a famine and starts to slow down your metabolism to conserve energy for vital body functions. This means that you will find it more and more difficult to lose weight.

The next thing that is going to happen is that you will be losing muscle instead of fat and that is not only going to make you weak, it is also going to slow down your metabolism even more because, as I've said, muscle uses more energy than fat.

You can then imagine that because you cannot do any exercise as well, you are going to lose even more muscle, slowing down your metabolism even more! Not the way to go if you are looking for permanent weight loss.

With the muscle you lose, as well as some water that you will lose, you may lose a few pounds, but you will lose very little fat. As soon as you re-hydrate again most of the weight will simply come right back.

In the end you will sit with problems because of the muscle you lost and you will probably gain even more weight than you lost because your metabolism has slowed down. Once again, not the way to go for permanent weight loss!

So, make very sure you steer away from all fad diet plans and go for a healthy weight loss plan. It is true that if you are looking at how to lose weight calories have to be reduced, but not too many. See the guidelines in: How To Identify Fad Diet Plans #1 - You Are Allowed ToEat Very Few Calories A Day

I Cannot Lose Weight - Stumbling Blocks On The Road To Weight Loss - Stumbling Block #2 - Skipping Meals

If you are saying I cannot lose weight, it is very possible that you are stumbling
over one of the
stumbling blocks on the road to weight loss. With good advice and the right diet you will never have to say I cannot lose weight again.

For more info on a healthy diet you can go to my Hub: How To Lose Weight Quickly

I have already discussed the stumbling block #1 which is unrealistic expectations. Today the stumbling block #2 is skipping meals.

Very often when people are on a diet they think they will lose weight faster if they start skipping meals. Well, nothing can be further from the truth. Skipping meals is one of the surest ways to fail with your weight loss efforts.

There are three reasons why skipping meals are one of the most important stumbling blocks on the road to weight loss.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AMUFPS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000AMUFPS&linkCode=as2&tag=funeascra-20&linkId=747MZYKI3CTZ3TIT1. When you start skipping meals, chances are that you will get very hungry and be tempted to eat something that will not do your diet any good. Skipping meals often leads to a lack of self discipline and then you go completely overboard ruining whatever success you have had.

2. By skipping meals you reinforce the problem of I cannot lose weight, because you will not be getting all the nutrition your body needs. To stay healthy your body needs certain kinds of food in certain proportions and if you skip a meal you will not get it. Do not listen to any How To Lose Weight Tips that tell you to skip meals! For successful weight loss you have to eat a Healthy diet.

3. If you start skipping meals, and you do not fall into the two traps mentioned above, the possibility is very good that you will not eat enough. We all know that in the quest of How To Lose Weight, Calories have to be reduced, but if you eat too little it can have a very negative effect on you. Your body sees a famine coming on, slows down your metabolism to preserve energy for vital organs and weight loss becomes more and more difficult.

So, do not fall into this trap and trip over the second stumbling block on the road to weight loss. It is sure to have you saying: "I Cannot Lose Weight!"

How To Identify Fad Diet Plans #1 - You Are Allowed To Eat Very Few Calories A Day

If you are thinking about weight loss, you know you will have to go onto a diet and do moderate exercise. The problem now is choosing a diet that will work. Most important, of course, is to be able to
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KV383S/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B002KV383S&linkCode=as2&tag=funeascra-20&linkId=4SGCH7BU7KKXSMEF
identify Fad Diet Plans.

As fad diet plans can lead to many problems taking the time to make sure you do not fall for any of the fad diet plans is a good idea. To be able to do this you must be able to identify fad diet plans and steer clear from any of them.

Once you know all the characteristics of fad diet plans you will be able to choose a healthy diet that suits you. In this way you will have a far better chance of having long term success with your weight loss efforts.

How To Identify Fad Diet Plans #1:

We all know that if we are looking at How To Lose Weight Calories have to be reduced. That we cannot dispute, but in fad diet plans this is taken too far.

This is the very first dead giveaway of fad diet plans. You are only allowed to eat very little. The amount of calories you are allowed to eat on fad diet plans are way too little for your health's sake. So, if you see a diet where you are only allowed to eat very little you can be very sure it is a fad diet plan.

Eating so little will now have any good effects in the long run and you will also not be able to keep it up as you will simply be too hungry, in fact you will just about be starving.

So, do not even look at a diet where you are allowed very few calories a day. It is not safe to reduce your calorie intake per day with more than 500 calories than your body needs to maintain your weight.

To know how many you are supposed to eat to maintain your present weight you do the following math:

If you lead a mostly sedentary life you need 13 x your weight in calories to maintain your weight. So, from this you subtract the 500 calories and you know how many you need to eat each day.

If you are moderately active you take 16 x your weight and for very active you take 19 times your weight. From this you have to, once again, subtract 500.

There are easier ways than this to reduce the calories in a healthy way. Have a look at How To Lose Weight Calories for a few good ideas.

So, do not make the mistake of falling for Fad Diet Plans.

I Cannot Lose Weight - Stumbling Blocks On The Road To Weight Loss - Stumbling Block #1

If this is you saying "I cannot lose weight!" it is possible that you have tripped over one of the many
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B06JYJG/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00B06JYJG&linkCode=as2&tag=funeascra-20
stumbling blocks on the road to weight loss. To help you I'm starting a series today to show you the stumbling blocks and how to overcome them.

I Cannot Lose Weight - Stumbling Block #1 - Unrealistic Expectations

When you are crying out "I cannot lose weight!" the very first stumbling block you have to be aware of is unrealistic expectations. You have to be aware of what is possible and what is simply not going to happen!

Keep in mind that it is simply not possible to lose 10 pounds in one week. There may be diets that say you can, but it is not possible. If you go on one of these Fad Diet Plans you may "appear" to lose a lot of weight, but it is not fat, it is water and muscles.Have a look at How Lose Weight Quickly

Now you do not want to lose muscles as it slows down your metabolism and the water will just be replaced as soon as you eat normal again. In the long run Fad Diet Plans may even make you gain weight as your metabolism slows down and you gain weight much faster and losing it becomes more and more difficult.

Eat sensibly and the weight loss will follow but do not fall for one of the Fad Diet Plans as you will pay dearly in the long run.

What are Aerobics?

Aerobics, which literally means “with oxygen,” are exercise that can be done to lose weight and regain health. There are main types of aerobic exercises, and if you do these exercises daily, you will find that you really will be more healthy. Aerobics are generally done at moderate levels of intensity for a longer time and can target any part of your body you wish to slim. There are many advantages of aerobics, which is why this form of exercise is both important and popular among health-conscious people.

Exercise can be broken down into two categories: aerobic and anaerobic. These differ in the ways in which your muscles contract during the exercise and how energy is generated within the muscles. Examples of anaerobic exercises include weight training or strength training, and with aerobic exercises, even the most well-built bodybuilder will not be able to run, swim, etc for long periods of time.

During aerobic exercise, your body breaks down glycogen to use for energy. If there is not enough glycogen in the body, you start using fat reserves instead, which is why you lose weight. Oxygen plays a key role in this process. With aerobic exercise, you don’t use bursts of energy. Rather, you spread out moderate levels of energy over a long period of time to trigger the use of fat in energy production. In general, things like running long distances, aerobics dances, and swimming for long periods of time are considered aerobics exercises, while anything with short bursts of motion, like sprinting, are not.

Benefits of aerobics exercises are great, which is why most doctors recommend them to patients, even if you enjoy a normal weight. Some of these benefits include strengthening the repertory muscles, enlarging the heart to pump more efficiently, increasing the flow of blood (and oxygen) in the body, and increasing endurance. Aerobics decrease the risk of death due to cardiovascular problems and of osteoporosis in both men and women.

Want to learn how aerobics can change your life? There are a number of great exercise programs you can do, which include both solo activities and classes with groups. To learn more (and always before starting a new exercising program, talk to your doctor or other health care professional to learn what types of aerobic exercises will work best for your body. Aerobics are the key to living a healthier and physically productive life, so don’t wait another day before starting a new healthy program that includes aerobics.

Why is Exercise Important?

No one wants to be unhealthy. Being unhealthy can lead to a wide variety of diseases attacking our bodies. Getting old before your time is the fate of many people who suffer from an unhealthy lifestyle. To regain our health, we need to eat right and exercise our bodies.
Exercise improves heart and lung function among other things. Ever notice those people, and maybe this is you also, who are huffing and puffing after walking a flight of stairs? You would think they had just run five miles the way they are breathing. That is a sure sign that their body is not getting enough oxygen and their muscles that are out of shape.
The body learns to use oxygen more efficiently when we participate in a regular exercise program. By program I mean consistent exercise. It could be walking around the neighborhood, jogging at the school track or working out at the local gym. As long as you do it more than once a month, your body will begin to use less oxygen to accomplish that exercise. When that happens, it is time to increase the time and intensity of the workout.
It is necessary for the heart to pump blood throughout the body. The heart can do this more efficiently when the body is in shape. Tissues stay oxygenated and hydrated to the point that your skin will glow and your resting heart rate and pulse will be lowered as well.
People have all heard that exercise releases “feel good” hormones and it’s true. Your outlook on situations will change when you have had a good run or walk to clear your head. Just the fact that you have completed the workout will make you feel better about yourself. If you want to keep those good vibrations, you have to continue to exercise.
Obesity is an epidemic among adults and kids in America. Carrying extra weight leads to health problems that can include Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, and heart attacks. All of these are life-threatening conditions that should be prevented when possible. The buildup of plaque in the arteries of the body can cause a heart attack or stroke to occur. At age thirty-five or forty, you don’t want to be worried about a heart attack. If you are morbidly obese, things like a heart attack well before old age can become reality. Taking preventative measures such as exercising, will help to lessen your risk of facing serious health conditions like those mentioned above.
Exercise is a way to burn off extra calories and lose weight. Combined with healthy eating, exercise helps the body return to it’s normal functioning state. This is important as we age. Our bones get weaker and more brittle. Our muscles begin to waste away to the tune of a pound a year after age forty. Exercise strengthens the bones and builds up strong lean muscle therefore prolonging the aging process.
This is the only body we’ll get. Treat it to the best. Exercise three or more times a week for improved health and a longer, happier life.

How To Lose Weight Tips That Are Easy To Follow

Any "how to lose weight tips" needs to be fun and easy if they are going to be of any practical use to you. The reason why you are looking for "how to lose weight tips" probably are because you have tried so many diets already and are still battling to get rid of those extra pounds permanently.

The funny thing is, the best "how to lose weight tip" is; eat a healthy calorie controlled diet and do moderate exercise. If you do this, your weight loss will be slower, but healthy and permanent.

Now you may well ask what is a healthy calorie controlled diet and what kind of moderate exercise will work? Let us have a look at each in turn.

Healthy calorie controlled diet:

A healthy calorie controlled diet consists of all the food groups in the right proportions,  prepared in a healthy low fat way. It is not a good idea to eat only certain kinds of food. This will only lead to malnutrition and food cravings.

So what should you eat?
  • Eat at least five small portions of carbohydrates and starchy vegetables a day
  • Eat at least three small portions of low fat proteins a day
  • Eat three kinds of vegetables that are a little higher in calories such as beetroot, pumpkin, carrots etc.
  • Eat at least three portions of relatively low calorie vegetables such as lettuce, string beans, cucumber, tomatoes, baby morrows, sweet peppers etc.
  • Eat at least two portions of low fat dairy a day
  • Eat at least three small portions of fruit a day
  • Eat two teaspoons of fat a day such as olive oil, butter and soft margarine. Use it for spreading as well as the preparations of your food.
  • Drink lots of water and try and cut out coffee as far as possible. There are studies that seen to show that coffee can be good for weight loss, but huge amounts of coffee is never good for your health.
  • Cut out all soft drinks and alcohol as far as possible. On special occasions try and keep it to the minimum.
These tips are for healthy, not too active, women. If you do a lot of exercise you need to increase your carbohydrates and protein a little. Men also need to eat a little more as they need more calories a day for their normal bodily functions. They need more protein because their body has more muscle than that of a woman.

Healthy exercise:

Any activity that increases your heart rate can be considered exercise. Even doing chores! Walking is a favorite of many as you can do it whenever you have the time. Make sure that you increase your heat rate for at least half an hour three days a week. Do not overdo it if you are very unfit as it may harm you.

Lastly, never start a weight loss plan before you have had a thorough physical checkup and have received the thumbs up from a medical practitioner. This is especially true if you have any underlying illnesses and conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.

For how to lose fat legs you have to do two things:

  1. Go onto a good diet
  2. Do leg exercises

Gluten Free Diet And You

There was a time when having to eat a gluten free diet, meant a severe limitation of tasty choices. However, because of the rise in awareness for the need of gluten free products, manufacturers are stepping up their efforts to produce gluten free products. In fact, there are more gluten free products available now then there ever have been. Manufacturers will probably increase the numbers further as time progresses. If you do have to go on a gluten free diet, you don’t have to worry too much about giving up your favorite foods. Chances are you’ll be able to find a gluten free substitute. If you can’t, there are a lot of quality gluten free recipes on the internet.

1. What is gluten?

Gluten is certain type of protein. Gluten is found in foods such as rye, wheat, and barley. Because most breads and cereals make use of these foods, they usually also contain gluten. Just because the food is a grain, doesn’t necessarily mean it contains gluten. For example, wild rice, corn, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, quinoa, teff, soybeans and sunflower seeds don’t contain gluten.

There is some controversy surrounding oats. There is conflicting reports about oats. Many processed foods contain gluten, because it is used as a food additive by many food manufacturers.

2. Who should be on a gluten free diet?

If you suffer from an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine, called celiac disease, you will most likely be put on a gluten free diet. Celiac disease is often misdiagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome. Some people have the disease but don’t really show any outward symptoms. The most common symptoms of Celiac disease include: Chronic diarrhea, the inability to gain weight, unexplained iron-deficiency anemia, bone or joint pain, arthritis, depression or anxiety, tingling numbness in the hands and feet, seizures, canker sores, missed periods, itchy skin rash, and fatigue.

There are some people who suffer from fibromyalgia who claim a gluten free diet has helped alleviate some of their symptoms. If you suffer from fibromyalgia, you should discuss this option with your doctor. You may get some resistance from your doctor, because at this time, there hasn’t been any major research into the effects of a gluten free diet on firbromyalgia. If you really want to try it, ultimately, it will be your decision. You just have to make sure with your doctor that you have no health issues that would preclude you from going on a gluten free diet, clear it with your doctor first.

People with diabetes may benefit from a gluten free diet. You have to be careful about going on a gluten free diet if you have diabetes. A lot of gluten free products add extra sugar or extra fat to make them taste better. It is extremely important you talk about going on a gluten free diet with your doctor or nutritionist before you consider going on a gluten free diet.

If your doctor says you have to go on a gluten free diet, or you want to and your doctor says its okay, then you will have many food choices still available to you. You just have to look at labels carefully. Manufacturers are producing more and more gluten free foods. If you have a craving for something that isn’t gluten free, there are plenty of gluten free recipes on the internet. There are also many gluten free diet cook books available too.

5 Surprising Foods To Help You Lose Weight

It may surprise you to know you don't have to nibble on celery sticks or carrots to get that metabolism going to burn calories to lose weight.  Many foods are thought to be fattening, when in fact they actually can help your body burn fat so you can slim down faster.  There are good reasons to re-think some of the “forbidden” foods when deciding what foods to choose for your diet.  Let's take a look at a few of these much aligned foods to set the record straight.

1. Almonds

Who would have thought that this small nut would have such a significant impact on weight loss? A Purdue University study showed that when compared to eating rice cakes, people who ate a handful of almonds felt fuller longer. Surprisingly, almonds are loaded with fat, but it's good fat. It's the kind of fat that your brain and body needs to function. Enjoy about 16 to 20 almonds every day to satisfy your hunger without overloading on calories.

2. Olive Oil

A healthy intake of fats can help you lose weight. How? By controlling hunger. Fats make you feel full. Monounsaturated fats are a good choice because you will keep cholesterol under control while satisfying your cravings, and olive oil fits the bill. Eliminating fats from your diet to lose weight has been a dieting standard for many years, but certain fats are essential to a healthy diet.  This concept is surprising to many long-term dieters.  But, in these modern times, science has proven that oils, the right oil, provides nutrition that your body needs as well as weight loss benefits.

3. Peanut Butter

Who would have guessed that a kid-friendly food could be diet friendly, too? Peanut butter is packed with niacin, which keeps the digestive system on track and prevents belly bloat. Just keep an eye on portion size because peanut butter can have a lot of fat and even sugar.  Limit yourself to no more than two tablespoons a day and be sure to pick a natural peanut butter so you avoid the added sugars.

4. Parmigiano- Reggiano Cheese

Another on the list of unexpected foods to help slim you down is a particular favorite of most foodies. This low-calorie, calcium-rich treat activates the body's fat-burning hormones, say University of Wisconsin researchers. This cheese also has a higher protein content compared to other dairy products. Consider adding this powerhouse of flavor to roasted vegetables for that little extra boost.

5. Animal Fats

We've been told for so long that you have to eliminate animal fat from your diet to lose weight, that it's hard to wrap your head around this one, right?  But, new research has proven that animal fat provides some nutritional value you need and may be a better choice than other forms of fat in some cases.  Not only does fat in your food make you feel full, but certain animal fat may provide your body with some missing elements.  Even the much dreaded lard has been making a dietary come back.  Your body needs vitamin D to feel good and to function.  Interestingly, foods that provide vitamin D, all of which are animal foods, tend to be high in cholesterol.  What does this have to do with weight loss?  If you are not getting enough vitamin D, you will not be active.  Your bones and muscles are going to suffer, keeping you sedentary, which is a disaster when trying to lose weight.  So, animal fats in moderation should be on your weight loss radar.

Through the years, there have been diet gurus who have pitched some pretty far-fetched ideas about weight loss.  Usually, it comes down to moderation.  Avoiding certain foods entirely, even the foods that “sound” fattening, may not be the best way to lose weight and keep it off.  It's confusing, I know.  But, give it some thought and decide for yourself which weight loss theories make sense to you.

The Truth About Mothers And Their Daughters Resemblance On BMI Charts

You may be wondering whether mothers and their daughters' resemblance on BMI is a sure thing?  It's easy to assume that a daughter might take after her mother's eating habits and have a similar BMI as her mother, for many reasons.  But they might not be the reasons you'd think.  But first, let's make it clear what BMI is.

BMI or body mass index is nothing more than the measure of a person's weight in relation to her height.  A person's weight in kilograms is divided by a person's height in meters, squared (which is simply a person's height times itself—if I'm 1.5 meters tall, I would take 1.5 times 1.5).  The resulting number is her BMI.  A normal BMI is anything from 18.5 to 24.5, and 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, with anything above that considered obese.  A BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight.  BMI is a good general measurement for most people, although very muscular people usually measure as overweight or obese because BMI doesn't distinguish between muscle weight and fat weight.

So, back to mothers and their daughters' resemblance on BMI, does it guarantee that a daughter will be overweight if her mother has a high BMI?  Will a normal weight mother raise a normal weight daughter?  Will the daughter be underweight if the mother is too skinny?  While nothing is certain 100% of the time, there are some factors that push those answers more toward a yes than a no.

Genetics do play a part in a person's tendency toward staying thin or gaining weight.  Hereditary factors like body type are impossible to change.  Tendency toward a slow metabolism can be boosted by exercise, good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, but genetics will help determine how easy or difficult keeping a high metabolism may be for a daughter.

The environment is a huge factor.  When a mother is overweight, for example, and she generally cooks for the family, the family eat what she eats to a large degree.  So it's easy to see why mothers and their daughters' resemblance on BMI is often very similar.  Living with a person, especially someone with the influence a mother has on a daughter, also tends to shape a person's attitudes.  So if the mother is very active, eats healthy and stays physically fit, it's more likely than a child, especially a daughter, will do the same.  Conversely, a mother who is overweight, rarely gets exercise and doesn't seem overly concerned with weight loss or health is likely to bring up her daughter with the same outlook.  In both cases, it's no surprise that their BMIs might be similar.

So not only do the attitudes about food and fitness filter down from mothers to daughters, the type of food eaten, and even the amount of food eaten, can filter down, too. Mothers and their daughters' resemblance on BMI charts is no coincidence, and only shows the need for families to be aware of their health and fitness even when children are small.

Debunking The Myth Of Eating Less To Lose Weight

One of the biggest myths about losing weight is the idea that you need to eat less in order to shed pounds. New studies have shown that this is simply not the case. As a matter of fact, it's just the opposite. Let's take a look at why you need to eat if you want to lose weight.

The Scientific Benefits of Breakfast

People who eat breakfast on a daily basis tend to lose weight easier. The National Weight Control Registry performed a study that showed people who eat breakfast have a better chance of maintaining a 30 pound, or more, weight loss for at least a year. Studies in The Journal of the American Dietetic Association showed similar results.

Another research group analyzed government data on over 4,000 adults and found those who ate a regular breakfast tended to take in fewer calories during the day and had a lower fat intake. They also noted that regular breakfast eaters were more likely to engage in routine exercise.

Eating breakfast also jump-starts your metabolism, says Elisabetta Politi, RD, MPH, nutrition manager for the Duke Diet and Fitness Center at Duke University Medical School. She states; "When you don't eat breakfast, you're actually fasting for 15 to 20 hours, so you're not producing the enzymes needed to metabolize fat to lose weight." In fact, sumo wrestlers don't eat until late in the day for the sole purpose of gaining weight. If you don't eat breakfast, you are actually following the sumo wrestler diet. Now, that is a scary thought.

Keep Your Metabolism Going All Day

With the right mechanisms in place, your body will naturally burn fat. But, what are the right mechanisms? That's your job; to find your body's balance between energy consumed and energy burned. Metabolism is the name of the game. When you eat healthy small meals, starting early in the morning, your metabolism is set in full swing, mobilizing and converting fat stores into energy.

When you eat breakfast along with regular snacks and small meals throughout the day, your body gets the nutrition it needs and goes to work, breaking down your food into energy. If you wait until you're starving before you eat anything, that gnawing feeling in your stomach is telling you something. Your body will start by robbing your muscle tissue of anything it needs first, like protein, then it will store fat because it thinks it's in famine mode. By eating early and often, not only are you protecting the muscle that supports your frame and allows you to walk, sit, and stand, but you are also keeping your metabolism going so it works all day to give you energy.

Simple Weight Loss Tips to Get You Started:

1. Eat slowly.

It takes twenty minutes for your stomach to tell your brain you are full. Don't eat and run. You'll be looking for your next meal way before you need it.
2. Pick out foods you need to chew.

Try apples, whole grain hearty breads, celery, and other raw vegetables. These foods will slow down your eating and satisfy your chewing instinct. Raw nuts are another option. Just be sure to monitor the serving sizes as you snack.
3. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of cold water per day.

This helps to feel full and as your body works to raise the temperature of the water, you are burning calories. Keep bottles of water filled in the refrigerator and sip, sip, sip.
4. Eat your fruit

Eating oranges is much more satisfying than just drinking the juice. Keep this thought when choosing other fruits and vegetables. Whole is usually better.
5. Healthy snacks

Have a healthy snack before you start cooking dinner. This will help with overeating while preparing the meal, and after. Munching on celery is the perfect way to keep you satisfied while cooking.
6. Low fat sweet fix

If you need a sweet treat, just remember that frozen yogurt, angel food cake, and sherbet are all low fat. Low carb diets are low sugar diets, which often forbid fruit. In this case, one tiny piece of dark chocolate may be an option. This may leave you satisfied without all the sugar or carbs. You have to experiment to find the right treat for your sweet tooth that fits your diet.

7. Do not starve yourself

The less you eat, the more your body protects itself and begins to go into starvation mode, holding on to more food, storing it as fat and robbing your muscles of nutrients. Make sure you eat a good breakfast to start your day right. Then, keep your metabolism working throughout the day with small meals and healthy snacks.

Stop starving yourself so your body can relax and start to lose that weight. Adding foods instead of subtracting foods? It's so crazy it might just work.

Tips For You On A Diet For Lowering High Cholesterol And Losing Weight

If you have high cholesterol it is important to get yourself on a diet for lowering cholesterol and losing weight. Many Americans worry about their cholesterol levels, especially those who are over weight. In most cases the first step in resolving your high cholesterol and shedding those extra pounds; is changing your diet. You will discover some pretty convincing evidence, in this article, which will convince you, to improve your health by losing weight and lowering your cholesterol.

A recent study completed by The School of Medicine at Stanford University showed that with both diet and exercise, you can significantly reduce your cholesterol and get rid of the extra weight. The study was done with over 300 men and women with high cholesterol. In order to control the groups the first group was put on a low fat diet. Then the second was put on the same diet with an exercise program.

After a year the group with both diet and exercise had lower cholesterol. The group that didn’t incorporate exercise didn’t have a loss as significant as the first group.

Eating a low cholesterol diet has shown to lower cholesterol by 8% to 20%. There are a few low cholesterol diets that have proven to work well. These diets include; the Dash Diet, The South Beach Diet, The Ultra Metabolism Diet, and The Weight Watchers Diet. Every one of these diets has online programs or books to guide you through the diet with menu plans and instructions.

As an addition to your low cholesterol diet you should make sure to eat plenty of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is used to fix natural cracks and fractures in your arteries. If you don’t get enough Vitamin C your body will substitute it with cholesterol. If you make sure to get enough of the vitamin as part of your low cholesterol diet, your liver will not be forced to produce excess cholesterol.

In another study done, with sixty heart bypass surgery patients, it was shown that eating grapefruit everyday lowers your cholesterol. The study had the patients divided into three groups. One group was given red grapefruit. One group was given white grapefruit.

However the last group was not given any grapefruit and had no diet restrictions. The study showed that the groups that ate grapefruit regularly as part of a low cholesterol diet showed a significant drop in cholesterol. Whereas the group without restrictions, which didn’t eat any grapefruit, didn’t show any drop in cholesterol.

Additional studies have shown that women that have eaten five to six smaller meals had lower cholesterol and better weight control; than those that ate fewer larger meals. If you eat many small meals with a low cholesterol diet and fewer calories you will be able to lower your cholesterol by about 5% and drop your weight.

There is no question, having high cholesterol and being over weight, is very dangerous to your health. However, if you suffer from being over weight and high cholesterol there are some simple things you can do to lower both your weight and high cholesterol level.

As the above information indicated it doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply get yourself on a diet for lowering high cholesterol, combine it with a good exercise program and you are on your way to better health.

Eat Out To Lose Weight With A Restaurant Calorie Counter

A restaurant calorie counter can be a dieter’s best friend. Losing weight isn’t easy, so you need to take steps to make it as easy as possible on yourself. One way to do this is to not limit yourself to just bland home meals and a life where you never eat out for fear of not being able to maintain your diet the way you want to. With a restaurant calorie counter, you won’t have to.

There’s no doubt that losing weight is difficult. The rate of obesity is soaring and it’s not because people are trying to gain weight, sumo wrestlers excepted. In general, more than 95 percent of people who do manage to lose weight won’t be able to keep it off. Many people manage to gain and lose hundreds of pounds over their lifetime. When something is this difficult, you need to take every step you can to make it as easy as possible.

This includes eating out, or grabbing things on the fly, which is where a restaurant calorie counter comes in handy. We’d all like to be able to be able to do up our food at home, eat perfectly all day and come back to prepare a nutritionally flawless means for dinner, all with a smile on your face.

But in reality, this doesn’t happen. People sleep late, work late, and sometimes the boss wants you to have lunch with him. It’s a rare person who can get by without buying their food already prepared at some point. Unless your eating out is going to consist of glasses of water, you’re going to need a restaurant calorie counter.

A restaurant calorie counter is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It’s a guide to the calories and nutrient contents of things you find in restaurants. Generally, these will be available for all chain type restaurants, fast food and otherwise, but a very good restaurant calorie counter will also have very famous restaurants, and it is possible to get copies that have local information, as well.

The local restaurants are actually a flaw in using a restaurant calorie counter; even those that have restaurants are forced to estimate. This isn’t necessarily a huge problem, but bear in mind that if you’re eating at Uncle Joe’s Wings and Things you’re going to have to estimate.

A good way to do this, if you’re eating in a place where you’re going to be eating a lot but the place isn’t listed in your restaurant calorie counter, is to get your favorites as take out. Once you have them, measure them and then find something in the counter that’s pretty close and work out how many calories are in each one.

Either way, a restaurant calorie counter can be key to your weight loss success, regardless of the type of diet you’re on. If you’re using a controlled calorie plan, then you can easily look up the calorie count and adjust. Or you can choose dishes with the right amount of fat or carbs for your plan. Every diet is easier with a restaurant calorie counter.

The Truth About The Subway Diet

So you want to get rid of a few unsightly pounds. Maybe you’ve even tried some of the traditional diets out there and they just don’t work. Maybe it’s because you don’t have the time to cook your own healthy meals, let alone time to weigh and measure ingredients and count calories.

Maybe your weight gain is due to the fact that you eat most of your meals either at work or on the go. If this describes you, then you may want to consider a diet that is considered non-traditional but certainly has worked for many people, including the man who invented it. Maybe the Subway diet would be right for you.

Before getting into what the Subway diet is, it is best to understand more about the creator of this diet, Jared Fogle. Jared Fogle around 1997 decided that he needed to lose weight. He weighed approximately 430 pounds, and was consuming approximately 10,000 calories per day.

It was when his roommate in college a pre-med student correctly diagnosed Jared with sleep apnea and edema. Jared went to the hospital for some tests. His father, a physician, told Jared the sobering news that if he continued on like this, he would most probably not live past 35.

Jared decided he was going to go on the Subway diet. Subway was his favorite place to eat, so he figured he wouldn’t really be sacrificing a lot. Every day for lunch he would have a 6 inch turkey sandwich and every night he would eat a 12 inch veggie sub. Within the span of 3 months, Jared lost 100 pounds.

Spurred by this success, he then started to walk everywhere. Instead of taking an elevator he would take stairs. The exercise, combined with eating the low fat low calorie Subway sandwiches, helped Jared to eventually lose 240 pounds. Jared now weighs 190 pounds. Eventually, Subway found out about him, and paid him to be their spokesperson.

1. So why exactly does the Subway diet work?

The subway diet worked for Jared and anyone else who goes on it, because of two factors: Portion control and caloric intake. If you stick with the subs that are low fat and are low calorie and avoid mayo, cheese, and oils, you are limiting the amount of fats and calories that you consume.

By sticking with a 6 inch and a 12 inch sandwich you are controlling how much you eat. Jared also walked a lot. Therefore, he was not only limiting how much he ate, his fat and caloric intake, but was exercising on top of it.

2. Was it strictly the Subway food?

Yes and no. Subway offers many healthier types of foods than most other fast food restaurants. It wasn’t specifically the Subway food; it was as mentioned above, the fact that Jared was not consuming high calorie, high fat foods. He was exercising regularly.

You could do what Jared did with just about any fast food restaurant. You just have to pick foods that are low fat and low calorie. Most fast food restaurants have their nutrition information available upon request.

3. Is the Subway diet right for me?

You should always consult a doctor before you begin any type of weight loss or exercise plan. It is suggested that if you decide to do the Subway diet that you include more vegetables and fruits into your diet. Jared skipped breakfast. This was a mistake. He could have easily prepared a low fat, low calorie, breakfast which included fruits. For example, a low fat fruit smoothie is a good option.

If you do eat on the go or a lot of fast food and you talk about it with your doctor then the Subway diet may be right for you. Though Subway offers more healthy choices, you don’t have to stick strictly with Subway. You just have to find the low fat, low calorie foods in other fast food restaurants. Be sure to get plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables too.

The “Quick Weight Loss Diet” Fallacy - Fad Diet Plans

In today's “instant” world we want to lose the weight yesterday. This is a sure way to set yourself up for a disappointment as it is impossible to lose 100 pound in one week. Even if you do not have a lot to lose, setting realistic goals will prevent frustration.

In reality, you will do much better setting smaller, achievable targets for yourself. If you must try the new-clothes strategy, go down a size at a time, and do not buy anything you have to take out a second mortgage to pay for.

Because, if you continue to insist on losing weight fast, you will end up falling for fad diet plans that offer quick weight loss.

There is no such thing as a quick weight loss diet and there is no easy weight loss for people who want to be slimmer than they are at the moment.

The problem with most people is that they tend to opt for quick fixes, but the fact is that these “quick” fixes are not effective at all.

What Does Not Work:

Today, there are plenty of weight-loss strategies that are guaranteed to backfire. This is because these “quick” fixes are not efficient because they do not employ the right principles and the right attitude towards weight loss.

These quick weight loss diet plans are known as fad diet plans because that is exactly what they are, just a fad. In time, when fashion is over and popularity wanes down, people will realize that the diet they have depended on is not reliable at all.

To know more about these fad diet plans that are selling like hotcakes in the market today, here is a list of some telltale signs that would tell you not to try it even once.

Here they are:

1. Skipping meals

Does your diet plan require you to skip meals? If it does, then, it is a fad diet.

To abstain from food completely is not a healthy habit. It may even cause some serious complications or problems especially for people who have diabetes.

Skipping meals will only cause hypoglycemia, or the condition wherein your blood sugar is really low, and will probably only be effective in making you eat twice as much at the next meal.

2. Dieting without exercise

Exercise is crucial to the human body. It is important for proper blood circulation and other activities of the human body system.

Therefore, diet plans that do not require you to exercise are not realistic. People are born to move. So, do incorporate exercise in your weight loss regime. If you do not want to go out to exercise, why not consider home exercise equipment, such as a Keiser M3 Indoor Cycle, and then you can exercise whenever it suits you, even while you are watching TV!

But then again, exercise alone is not enough. It is best to combine diet and exercise.

3. Continuous procrastination

There is no better time to start losing weight than now. If you really want to lose those excess fats, you have start now.

Delaying tactics will not get you anywhere and will only make the problem worse. So, if your diet plan suggests a certain time frame for you to start losing weight, chances are, you are following the trend of fad diet plans.

Boiled down, it is best to rely more on the way you feel than the tale of the tape. This means that if the weighing scale tells you that you are losing weight even if it is slower than you would like, but you are feeling energetic and positive about your weight-loss efforts, then, you are doing just fine.

As mentioned and is worth mentioning all over again, weight loss is not a quick process.

Moderation is the keyword here. Get a healthy balanced diet and combine it with a healthy, moderate and realistic exercise program and you will see the pounds dropping off. Set small realistic goals and it will help you to stay motivated.
